The Feltiles Story

The FELTILES Story

After teaching kids about architecture for a long time, archKIDecture started working with the Chicago Architecture Biennial in 2019. We were doing programming with kids and families, to encourage engagement with the exhibits in the Chicago Cultural Center.

We discovered these felt blocks and figured that kids would make patterns, flat on the tables, creating a kind of 2D collage with square colors. But kids always surprise us. They immediately began to build 3D structures with these square felt tiles. Towering towers, warrens of rooms, geometric shapes and balanced buildings. And not only kids were playing with the tiles, but adults too. Adults alone, with other adults and adults with kids.

Everyone loved them. They wanted to have some. It took a few years but we figured out how to manufacture them. So FELTILES were born.

Soft yet sturdy, FELTILES offer creative construction. They are gentle on bare feet—no more painful surprises when stepping on scattered pieces. Their durable construction stands up to enthusiastic building while remaining comfortable to handle.
Parents and noise-sensitive individuals will appreciate FELTILES’ nearly silent operation. When tiles fall or tumble, there are no jarring crashes—just peaceful, uninterrupted building time that’s ideal for apartments, sensory-friendly environments, and quiet hours. Cleanup is simple and stress-free, as tiles nest neatly back into their storage box.

FELTILES are crafted from recycled PET plastic felt, certified to OEKO-TEX Standard 100.
