The Grand Budapest Hotel. What a great movie. We love that the whole story revolves around a building, a great structure, that is all derived from the imagination of Wes Anderson, the creator, and director of the film.
The hotel is bigger than life in the movie, but in real life it is a model that is only 9 feet tall and mostly purple and pink.
The hotel design is based on research that Wes Anderson did with the film’s production designer, Adam Stockhausen. They studied old resort hotels and other places in Europe of days gone by. After designing it, a crew built this 9 foot tall model and it is a beauty! Read more about it here.
We wish it were a real place so we could visit it. Here is another story about the model.
