BaseCamp

Summer 2016 Architecture Camps for Kids in Chicago area

BaseCampWe just got wind of some great camps in Oak Park, Illinois, just west of Chicago, where kids from 1st grade through 8th grade can find a camp that might just knock your socks off.

Called BASE camp, the Oak Park Park Education Foundation serves around 1000 kids who get to learn about STEAM concepts. STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math. Many of the programs are also sponsored in partnership with the Frank Lloyd Wright Trust. Go to the BASECAMP website >

Fortunately for anyone who goes to this camp – and folks outside of Oak Park can attend – Oak Park is the home of many famous structures. Many of the houses and other buildings are designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and others are by other Prairie School architects. That means that campers often get to take field trips to see these incredible historic structures to learn right from the source. (Or should we say “wright” from the source?)

Check out the website and see if there are any spaces available for your kids to attend a camp this summer in Oak Park. And maybe you can visit the Frank Lloyd Wright Home and Studio for a tour too – it is fascinating and so beautiful. We wish we could live and work there.
