At archKIDecture, we are always trying to figure out ways to build cool stuff and we are so pleased when we can figure out how to use a material that is recycled or distracted from the trash pile.
We are working on some building blocks that we plan to use for Family Days at the Chicago Architecture Biennial 2021, (CAB2021) In this iteration of the Biennial, we will be going outside to the Chicago neighborhoods to hang out and build stuff with families. The theme of the the CAB2021 is “The Available City” and we are taking materials that are AVAILABLE and making them into fun tools for BUILDING!
We got lucky and State Senator Ram Villivalam’s office had a whole bunch of lawn signs that they donated to us, since they were not going to use them. The signs are made of heavy duty corrugated plastic material that is durable and waterproof. We had our teammate cut LITERALLY THOUSANDS of squares from the signs and we are still working on drilling the holes for connecting them – but here is a sample of what we are going for.
If you have other ideas, please let us know. We want to build all sorts of cool things with these squares.
